Bundesweites Artist Labor der Labore (B.A.L.L.)
Independent Performing Arts in Dialogue
14. + 15. October 2022
Haus der Berliner Festspiele
The Fonds Darstellende Künste is offering an invitation to a federal 360° overview onto independently produced art with a two-day, open and performative dialogue format. Crises are layered on top of each other like tectonic plates, and art is serving as a seismograph, earthquake and rescue squad. What conclusions can be drawn from this? What moves the independent performing arts in and after crises? How have work methods changed; which reasonable changes remain to be made? Which changes in content and aesthetics seem to be occurring and can be expected? Can consequences regarding the audience be specified?
The participants will enter into a polylogue after strong positions in the opening lectures by the patron and State Minister for Culture and the Media, Claudia Roth, the director of the Berliner Festspiele Matthias Pees and the general manager of the Fonds Darstellende Künste Holger Bergmann, as well as follow-up impulse lectures by the cultural scientist and performance artists Sibylle Peters and the theater maker Ogutu Muraya.
Laboratory situations – with Antje Pfundtner, Gob Squad, She She Pop, Joana Tischkau, Monika Gintersdorfer, LIGNA, Stefan Kaegi, i can be your translator, among others – will be an invitation on both event days for practice-centered workshops, in-depth talks on the streaming stage, heated debates in thematic work circles, collective zine making and urban experiments in public space. The palette of issues reaches from aspects of sustainability, ecology and digitality, intersectional observations of gender diversity, race, inclusion, intergenerationality or class to new forms of networking and cooperation, interdisciplinarity, community (building) and cultural practices of sharing, as, for example, digital space also offers us.
In addition, 30 federal Artist Labs, in which artists and artmakers entered an exchange on self-chosen issues in the fields of artistic production, aesthetics or generating audiences between June and August, will present themselves in the performative exhibition setup. Their questions and talks create the event’s framework and point of departure.
An additional performative part of the programme is the „Markt für nützliches Wissen und Nicht-Wissen“ (Market for useful knowledge and non-knowledge) on 14 October.
