Profile

The Fonds Darstellende Künste is one of six federal cultural funds. For almost 40 years, the Fonds has supported the diverse theater, performance and dance landscape of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is an intermediary support instrument for the independently producing performing arts and, at the same time, it is a network in cultural politics. Given the strength of its innovation, it functions as a partner in shaping the independent scene and promotes it within the cultural landscape all the way up to the federal levels of cultural politics and administrations.

Innovation and Radiance

The Fonds’ funding offers are directed towards federally and internationally active artists as well as institutions in the independent performing arts with a relevance across federal states – and they thus augment the support offers from individual federal states and municipalities.

Focus on Art

A separate funding program is dedicated to each stage in the development of artistic production – from the first artistic research to the actual production up to networking and knowledge-transfer formats. The Fonds’ funding offers are directed towards all genres and divisions of the performing arts. The Fonds also regularly shapes its support with a specific focus on changing thematic, artistic or target group issues.

Discourse and Perspectives

In addition to its funding activities, the Fonds – in cooperation with a total of 17 interest groups from the sphere of the arts – creates spaces for critical exchange and dialogue between art, politics and society. By recognizing remarkable artists and in forum and dialogue formats, the Fonds increases the visibility of innovative, independently producing art - federally and internationally.

A partner for Art and Politics

With diverse consulting offers – on its support programs and beyond – the Fonds supports freelance artists. For representatives from the political sphere, it is a reliable contact point for questions about the future and perspectives on development.

Focus 2024

After receiving standard funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media at a level of 10 million EUR, the Fonds had the ability for the first time to tender all newly developed funding programs agreed with the federal states and the federal government with the exception of research grants.

As in years past, standard funding was augmented by the Global Village Kids programs in the context of the "Kultur macht stark" funding for cultural education.

Team and Organigram

At regular intervals, the managing director, chairman of the board of directors and the members of the board of directors discuss the current state of affairs and the strategic direction of the Fonds. In addition to the board of directors meetings that take place three to four times per year, the members of the board of directors are regularly involved in jury decisions. In between the annual general assemblies, the representatives of the member associations remain in regular contact via video conferences in order to stay informed about the current situation.
The head office is led with an orientation towards tasks and employees. Regular talks between employees and the managing director, a transparent task structure as well as a process and workflow organization create the foundation for cooperation. The team lineup represented in the organigram and the commitment of each individual in the team at the head office drive continued development and ensure quality control for funding activities.
