The Stocking Seam

The Stocking Seam is an experimental comedic ballet placing two institutions for girls — the queer melodrama of Mädchen in Uniform (1931) and Ulrike Meinhof's Bambule (1970) — within a single choreographic world of discipline, desire, punishment and revolt, driven by the knowledge of what these places were preparing girls for: a society determined to regulate not only their behaviour but their friendships, pleasures, sexuality and imagination.
