Don’t stop me now: Where do we get our energy?
This discussion series focuses on ideas surrounding the concept of “energy” as a central material resource for art. Where do we get our energy when resources are scarce? What analogies exist between the necessary energy transitions in the Anthropocene and the transformative strategies freelance artists use in dealing with energy resources? How can the independent performing arts disrupt extractivist logics? And how can affective excitement be productively channeled into forms of “hot art”?

Theater director, writer, performer/SWITCHCRAFT WERK | BerlinAda Mukhína is theater director, author, performer and a senior artist of SWITCHCRAFT WERK, which produces art that shifts energy. Her political, investigative and participatory performances, like "How to Sell Yourself to the West", "Risk Lab", "Exile Promenade", were presented in Germany - among others at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatstheater Mainz, Theater RAMPE in Stuttgart, Deutschlandfunk - and in France, the Netherlands, the USA, Bulgaria, South Africa and the UK. After completing her law degree, she earned an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. She was awarded fellowships from the Academy of Arts in Berlin, Institut français x Cite internationale des arts in Paris and Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics in Washington, D.C. Currently she is pursuing a PhD in Artistic research titled “Energy. Burnout Artist in a World on Fire” at the Institute for Open Arts, Mozarteum University Salzburg. Her newest lecture-performance SWITCH about global energy politics and sexual power games was just presented at the Zschornewitz power station as part of the festival OSTEN.

Martin Naundorf
Curator, member of the OSTEN festival management team | BerlinMartin Naundorf is a curator and a member of the festival management team for OSTEN—Festival for Art and Mutual Interest in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Most recently, he was also co-curator of the “Faust” exhibition at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. He studied “Cultures of Curating” at the HGB Leipzig and cultural work in Potsdam and Amsterdam. After completing his studies, he worked as an artistic production manager for, among others, the Kunstfest Weimar, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the production office YMUSIC, and the Marc Sinan Company. In his curatorial practice, he is currently focusing intensively on public spaces, “the East,” and the festival format.

Researcher, Folkwang University of the Arts | BochumMona Leinung is a research associate at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the Essen Institute for Cultural Studies. She studied visual communication, art history, and philosophy in Berlin, Essen, and Bochum, and is currently working on her dissertation titled “Hot and Cold: Politics of Temperature.” Her research focuses on media philosophy, the history of concepts, critical social theory, and affect theory.
