Waacking – Physical Introduction
As part of a hands-on introduction, Yeliz Pazar/Mānuka presents the methods and concepts she developed for the production “POINT OF NO RETURN.” The starting point is Waacking, a dance style that emerged during the disco era of the 1970s within the Afro-Latinx American LGBTQ* community in Los Angeles as a form of resistance against racism, sexism, and homophobia. As a powerful movement language of resistance, Waacking merges in “POINT OF NO RETURN” with the search for dance forms of expression for the “before” and “after” of such a moment, one that abruptly changes an entire life.
