GLOBAL VILLAGE LABS
With this program, the Fonds Darstellende Künste supported rural art production in the performing arts, focusing in particular on international contexts.
The Fonds established this pilot project, in cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, also in order to draw conclusions about upcoming funding opportunities in rural areas for the performing arts sector.
What was funded?
With this special program, the Fonds Darstellende Künste promoted rural art production in the performing arts, particularly projects that focused on international contexts. Funding was provided for lab projects lasting several days that focused on the mutual exchange of regional and international aspects between science, art and society. Existing regional intercultural perspectives could be included and further developed or research carried out in which global questions were addressed on the basis of local symptoms in rural areas; networks of actors in rural areas were also created. In addition, input from the public was welcomed within the framework of the respective lab for or with the inhabitants of the region.
Who could apply?
Long-standing artistic institutions, ensembles or artists/groups from rural areas or actors from small towns (up to 20,000 inhabitants) with a special focus on rural areas were eligible to apply.
How much could be applied for?
Funding of up to €20,000 could be applied for. In well-founded exceptional cases, applications for funding of up to €25,000 could be submitted for particularly complex projects.
