#TakeCareResidenzen

Made possible by NEUSTART KULTUR – the rescue and future package for the cultural and media sector financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) – the Fonds Darstellende Künste launched #TakeCareResidenzen in October 2020, a funding program aimed at self-commissioned artists/groups working in the independent performing arts.

The aim of the program was to stabilize and strengthen the connections to independent theater and dance companies that were important to many artists/groups and had been interrupted by the cancellations of projects and performances due to the pandemic.

#TakeCareResidenzen therefore focused on these connections by funding residencies and promoted open-ended artistic work at around 40 production venues spread across the Federal Republic of Germany, which are affiliated or associated with two nationwide networks, the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser and flausen+bundesnetzwerk.

What was funded?

Funding was provided for open-ended projects such as research, laboratories, and concept development, as well as for the field of digitality and performing arts, and for all activities aimed at the further development of the applicant’s own artistic work and taking place in a residency at or in connection with one of the residency venues listed in the regulations.

Who could apply?

Applicants had to have demonstrably worked in significant artistic positions in publicly funded performing arts projects in the previous two years, or alternatively had to provide evidence of their transnational or international guest performance or production activities in their self-directed artistic work.
Applications also had to be accompanied by a certificate of residency from one of the production/dance houses listed in the regulations.
Applicants who were awarded #TakeCare funding after August 01, 2020 were not eligible to apply.

How much could be applied for?

The grant-like funding of up to €5,000 was awarded in several application rounds to individual artists for a residency period of two months.
Long-standing active artistic working groups, including collectives and artist groups, could collectively submit individual applications for up to five applicants (up to 5 x €5,000) for the same project.
In justified exceptional cases, residencies lasting longer than two months were also possible.

Application and funding deadlines

Applications for #TakeCareResidencies were submitted in several application rounds and could be made via the Fonds’ online application portal.

In the case of funding, the project duration in connection with residencies of the Bündniss internationaler Produktionshäuser ended on August 31, 2021 and in connection with residencies of the flausen+bundesnetzwerk from previous application rounds on March 31, 2021.
