Production funding

The new funding programs of the Fonds Darstellende Künste, which are being announced in 2023, focus on the fields of research, production and networking and thus enable numerous projects for individual artists, artist groups and structures of all disciplines and genres in the nationwide independent performing arts.

The production funding follows on from the Fonds’ previous successful funding programs in an updated form and supports independent artists in the realization of noteworthy artistic production projects nationwide.

The aim of the program is to enable artists to find and develop new aesthetics and expressive formal languages for the artistic questioning of social developments, to realize production projects and to present these productions publicly for the first time.

What is funded?

Funding is provided for project-related, artistic (including digital) work processes that focus on the development and presentation of artistic productions in the multifaceted independent performing arts. Premieres and, if applicable, subsequent performances are usually part of a project in the production funding program.

Who can apply?

Professional independent artists/groups from the performing arts (including performance, acting, dance, music theater, figure and object theater, theater in public space, contemporary circus) that have been active for many years (at least 2 years), are based in Germany and have not received continuous public (institutional) basic funding.

How much can be applied for?

The application amount is a minimum of €10,000 and a maximum of €50,000.
Co-financing from public funds (federal states and/or municipalities) amounting to at least 50% of the application sum must already be verifiable for the project applied for when submitting the application.
