Revival Funding Rural Areas

The Rural Areas Revival Funding is intended to support revivals and guest performances in rural areas and, where appropriate, the artistic or formal reworking of existing successful and promising productions in the independent performing arts that have already premiered.

The production for which a revival is being applied for must have previously been funded by one of the following programs of the Fonds Darstellende Künste: Production Funding (from 2023), Concept Funding.

Productions submitted for revival must be performed at least twice in rural areas as part of the funding. In the funding program, rural areas are defined as all cities and municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, as well as all locations listed in categories 1, 2, or 4 (but not 3 or 5) in the corresponding atlas of the Thünen Institute.

Artists/groups, ensembles, collectives and projects of all disciplines and genres of the independent performing arts based and working in Germany who have been producing professionally for many years (at least 2 years) and who can present visual documentation of the production intended for revival (complete video recording).

The minimum application amount at the Fonds is €10,000 and the maximum is €25,000. Co-financing from public (state and/or local) and/or private sources (cash contributions, grants from foundations) amounting to at least 30% of the application amount must be demonstrated for the proposed project at the time of application.

The regulations form the basis for the formal completeness of the application and include information on application requirements, formal exclusion criteria, and the cost and financing plan, as well as a list of the documents to be submitted. They should be read carefully before submitting an application. Failure to comply with the criteria set forth in the guidelines may result in an application being rejected on formal grounds and not forwarded to the jury.

Applications to the Fonds Darstellende Künste can only be submitted online.

Application deadline(s):

The possible project period for approved projects begins with the positive funding approval and ends on 30.09.2027.

A complete where-used list must be submitted within one month of the end of the approval period or by 30.11.2027, at the latest.
