Planning, applying for, and implementing cultural projects for young people in a discrimination-sensitive manner | #6 Diversity-sensitive selection of children's literature
20 January 2026, 03:00 PM - 05:00 PM
The series of nine workshops focuses on various aspects of discrimination-sensitive project design and provides practical tips for concrete implementation. The sixth event in the series deals with the topic:
“Diversity-sensitive selection of children's literature”
Diversity in children's books – why is it important? A respectful and authentic portrayal of different realities of life in literature not only contributes to a more just world, but also creates potential for every child to identify with the characters. Representation empowers all children and promotes more considerate coexistence.
In this webinar, you will learn how to find diversity-sensitive children's books, what to look for when choosing reading material, and receive tips on how to talk (with children) about critical passages in books and prejudices. Using concrete positive and negative examples, text passages and illustrations, as well as common stereotypes, your awareness of problematic and insensitive representations in children's books will be sharpened. Finally, there will be reading recommendations for further education.
