Thomas Schmidt

Thomas Schmidt has been Professor of Theater Management at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt/Main since 2010. He heads the master's program of the same name for training students for management tasks at theaters and orchestras, in independent groups and festivals. Thomas Schmidt studied literature, languages and economics and received his doctorate on program and play design in the theater ("Die Regeln des Spiels" VS Springer). He has published widely on theater management and reform, organizational development, and cultural policy, including, in 2017, "Theater, Crisis, and Reform," and in 2019, "Power and Structure in Theater." Schmidt worked for several years in a freelance company, he was a producer and dramaturg and wrote texts for five world premieres, some of which won awards. In 2003, Schmidt was appointed executive director and co-director, and later artistic director, at the National Theater Weimar.
