Code of conduct

The independent performing arts send aesthetic, artistic and content-related impulses into a constantly changing society. In the process, they are simultaneously committed actors while also being a location of social processes of transformation as well as their negotiation.

We, the Fonds Darstellende Künste head office team, thus stand behind a code of conduct that advances and strengthens a free, respectful, constructive and discrimination-sensitive coexistence within our institution and in the communication with other actors and institutions. In this code of conduct, we would like to position ourselves clearly against discriminating behavior and formulate how we would like to communicate and work within the team but also with external parties.

We share the conviction that the protection of human dignity, preservation of personal integrity and mutual respect, recognition of social diversity and the implementation of gender equality and equal opportunities are as fundamental as they are necessary. This is why we want to take on the responsibility of ensuring that we also live by these values.

Just like everywhere else, at the Fonds Darstellende Künste the employers and thus the institution has the responsibility to actively protect the employees and freelance work partners from all forms of discrimination – such as racism, antisemitism, sexism, classism, ableism and queer hostility – as well as from sexual assault, abuse of power, bullying and degrading behavior. The prerequisite for a positive work climate is, in addition to these protections, just as much a continuous further development of our own organization. Through a task-based work, association and office structure and cultural leadership that enables a culture of correcting errors and knowledge transfer, the Fonds Darstellende Künste also promotes the framework for individual responsible behavior as well as work on the institutional values.

At the same time, committed employee cooperation builds the foundation for a further development of the Fonds and its canon of values. This is why everyone in the team reflects on their own practice of actions and attitudes, passes on knowledge and is open for new things.

We resolutely and explicitly reject discrimination based on, for example, nationality or ethnicity, gender, religion or ideology, political conviction, disability, age, marital status, sexual identity or orientation and social background. We thus see the following behaviors as a foundation for cooperation, but also more fundamentally for social life together:

  • Acting respectfully and appropriately towards others.
  • Refraining from any physical, verbal or gestural form of assault or discrimination.
  • The effort to communicate unambiguously and clearly.
  • Empathetic, self-critical, open and communicative behavior.
  • Conscientious handling of assigned responsibilities and team members.
  • Openly addressing conflicts and actively helping to resolve them fairly.
  • Intervening in the case of inappropriate behavior of any kind and directly addressing inappropriate or abusive behavior.
  • Supporting an unbiased, comprehensive and open-ended investigation into assaults or discriminatory behavior.

The management commits to offering regular internal meetings for consultation, feedback and reflection.

In addition to the management, a person appointed by the Board of Directors is available for confidential employee concerns.

The Fonds Darstellende Künste will continue to work on an increase in diversity, gender equality and accessibility in funding and also in juries, committees and the head office team.
