Stadt Land Neu – Publikumsbetrachtungen im öffentlichen Raum

Bundesverband Theater im Öffentlichen Raum (BUTIÖR)

Is outside really for everyone? Is chance encounter really accessible? Or low-threshold?

The performing arts in public spaces have always enjoyed a large audience, even during the pandemic. Nevertheless, a number were left out and neglected in 2020 – 21. To counteract this, many artists developed formats with new approaches to their audiences. In "Stadt Land Neu", BUTIÖR evaluated three very different perspectives.

With table and chairs, freies ensemble p&s went to meet their (still) new audience in the public space. What could theater look like in public spaces? What could it be? What places and topics would people in Halle be interested in? In random conversations in urban spaces, they explored whom to reach by leaving the theater and going out into the public space.

In LaPoesia staged cultural days in rural areas, intertwining their experiences to evaluate the structure, the behavior, and the activation of their audience. Their main questions were: "How do we create enchanting moments to bring rural people into contact on a sustainable level? Who will be the audience in our future?"

By exploring the concept of audience, TheatreFragile and their guests looked at their previous creations to evaluate different spatial aspects and impacts. Reflecting on the social aspects of theater, they evaluate different forms of participation for community building.
