Publikum der Zukunft

Paradiesvogel e.V.

We want to create public spaces of heterogeneity

The artist lab of the Frankfurt association Paradiesvogel dealt with imagining and discussing an "Audience of the Future" – with a focus on children and youth. Their aim was to work on ideas for a "Frankfurt Model", in which formats, events and performances for young audiences emerge from a jointly acting independent arts community. Moderated by dramaturge/curator Moritz von Rappard, the artists pursued their questions in a three-day lab.

They approached their concept "Audience of the Future" from different angles. During a backstage tour at the zoo, they learned about monkeys that missed the "Show" and their audience during the pandemic. The artists developed movement scores while observing zoo visitors, and reflected on the limitations of their own imagination during close encounters with anteaters. In interviews with young people, they questioned why the zoo reaches a diverse audience that cultural institutions can only dream of. Looking back at formats developed out of the pandemic era, perspectives emerged on what it might mean to take young people seriously. Finally, models emerged that reorganize the theater as a meeting space and interpret the public sphere as an art space. These are now being further developed in collaborations.
