ShiftingCommunities

No more premieres! (Post)Digital formats rethink community building and emerge through prototyping and playtests in the process with the audience.

Audiences of (post)digital formats are being increasingly addressed as collaborators and co-creators. (Post)digital works are developed through a process involving close interaction with the recipients, reaching media-savvy target groups through participatory settings. At the same time, they require new strategies to strengthen their relationship with their communities and to become visible to audiences far beyond educational and cultural institutions.

From 4th – 6th September 2023, "ShiftingCommunities" brought together 17 artists from the (post)digital community in Klein Glien, whose work integrated practices such as creative coding, software development, interaction design, and physical computing.

Methods for audience participation such as play testing, user experience design, and prototyping were evaluated, along with the associated responsibilities. Practice-oriented "Deep Dive" sessions encouraged knowledge and workflow exchange. Formats like "Tool Party" provided space for testing prototypes, software and tools, as well as collaborative live coding. The playful format of "Needs Ping-Pong" assessed desires for sustainable structures, community building, and greater visibility for a (post)digital community that is as diverse as its engagement with the audience.
