With Care: Action Lab zwischen Theater, Publika und Sorgearbeit

Bühnenmütter e.V.

It's a shame you're going to be a mother. I always liked your art.

How about a toolkit to enable and facilitate theater visits by people with children? It is time to break down barriers and fulfill the right to participate in arts and culture, all parents and others with care responsibilities have. This lab has produced a booklet with concrete guidance and proposals for a transformation of theaters, festivals and spaces, modes of production and funding.

In two think tanks (September 23-24, Hamburg Kampnagel and October 7-9, Berlin Feuerwache), recipients and creators in the performing arts community, whose everyday lives are shaped by care work, met with representatives from the fields of festival curation, artistic direction and theater production. The resulting toolkit builds on an in-depth knowledge of the artists/mothers from the research project "BEYOND RE:production – Mothering in the performing arts" (2022) and members of the initiative "Bühnenmütter".

Family friendliness is part of many anti-discrimination struggles in theater as a social structure. As a space for feminist visions and intersectional futures, the artist lab brought parents and other people with care responsibilities into focus: as fallow potential audiences of the performing arts.

More detailed documentation of the lab can be found behind the following keywords, which invite you to browse.
