Transnational artists from the Global South, especially those who have not studied in Germany, have to overcome a multitude of bureaucratic and aesthetic barriers before they can gain a foothold in the German theater system. The same is true on the part of their audience: Transnational communities are often not directly addressed by theaters and depend on a direct approach from the artists. What has to change so that migrant artists can confidently invite their communities to German theaters? Transnational artists discuss hurdles and visions.
