Research Grant

Basics for the application

01. Research grants are directed towards professionally producing artists from all genres and divisions of the independent performing arts. The personal scholarship-like grant supports artistic research without any determined outcome and conceptual development of artistic production projects that serve to increase artistic qualifications.

02. The scholarship-like grant at a level of 7.500 € is bound to an individual for the period of three consecutive months that lie in the period between 01.11.2023 – 31.04.2024.

03. Applicants must demonstrate that they have been working in the years between 2019 – 2023 with artistic responsibility or significant artistic participation in at least three productions in the independent performing arts that were supported by public funding and reached over federal states’ boundaries or were transnational productions (see no. 7).

05. The natural persons applying for the grant must have their residence and the focus of their work in Germany. The project in the framework of the research grant must be primarily realized in Germany; any artistically justified deviations from this regulation must be explained in the application.

Deadlines and Application

06. Applications must be submitted by 01.08.2023 until 11:59 pm.

07. The application must be submitted as a completely filled out online form at https://onlineantrag.fonds-daku.de/benutzer/anmelden

In addition, a completed application also includes:

  • A two-page comprehensive presentation of the person and previous artistic activity as a pdf document;
  • A three-page description that covers all of the essential aspects of the research project as a pdf document;
  • Internet links for a self-presentation
  • Proof of artistic responsibility or significant artistic participation in at least three productions supported by public funding * in the independent performing arts in the years from 2019 – 2023 of which either
  • All three productions were shown and/or produced in more than one federal state.

OR

  1. Two productions were shown and/or produced in more than one federal state and one production was produced and/or presented transnationally.

OR

  1. One production was shown and/or produced in more than one federal state and two productions were produced and/or presented transnationally.

The respective productions must be proven to have been concluded, for example in the form of a premiere. The proof is to be submitted as an attached pdf document.

08. An application is considered to have been submitted on time if all documents (see nr. 7) have been uploaded into the Fonds Darstellende Künste’s data bank before the deadline and the completed application was sent. Late or incomplete applications can be excluded from consideration.

09. There is no entitlement to the grant. To receive the grant, a specific project account needs to be utilized or set up. If this is not done, a grant cannot be secured.

10. Payments occur after the completion of a project grant contract. The monthly accessing of funds must be submitted by the grant recipient in the online portal. Payments occur in three consecutive months at a level of 2.500 € per month respectively.

11. In the case of a grant, the project period ends on 31.04.2024 at the latest.

12. Complete source and disposition statements must be submitted one month after the end of the respective project at the latest.

Cost and Financing Plan

13. The cost and financing plan is an essential part of the online form in the application. An additional cost and financing plan does not have to be submitted.

14. The Fonds supports research projects at a level of 7.500 Euro. The means exclusively serve to cover the applying person’s fee.

15. Co-financing with additional funds is ruled out.

Exclusion criteria / Prerequisites

16. Group applications are not permitted.

17. A grant is not possible if the project applied for has already begun before the grant has been approved.

18. A project can only be applied for once in a Fonds Darstellende Künste support program; parallel applications are not permitted. A project that has been rejected on the basis of a board of trustees’ decision cannot be once again applied for at the Fonds Darstellende Künste.

19. Applicants can only submit one project in the support round of the program.
